WHY ARE YOU LIVING IN ZURICH?
If you had told me to pick any city in Europe and pick up and move there, I probably would not have picked Zürich. Switzerland probably wouldn't have crossed my mind in the list of places I'd consider moving. In truth, I'm not the pick-up-and-move-to-Europe type as it is. I love the known, understood, routine that comes with settling into a place and environment. Last year at this time I would have guessed that Zach and I would be living somewhere between New Haven and New York and that it would be that way for the foreseeable future/forever. Then of course there is the oh so over stated saying, "you only live once," and with that saying on repeat we jumped at the opportunity to move to Zürich. Well...that's not really fair actually, we didn't jump...we hesitated, hesitated some more and then sauntered. Zach, who worked for a Swiss company in Stamford, CT, was asked if he would consider moving to Zurich, to work for the same company. After contemplating it for a couple months he actually turned the job down. We knew this was a once in a life time opportunity, but we couldn't conceive of uprooting ourselves from friends, families and my career. Fortunately we got a second chance, a chance to reconsider, and we did, and here we are! So far so good, and very happy!
HOW LONG WILL YOU BE IN ZURICH?
The only answer I really have right now is - for as long as we love it - could be 3 years...could be 10....
DO YOU AND ZACH EAT ALL THAT FOOD BY YOURSELVES?
eeek! We certainly try to. I rarely cut recipes in half and tend to make the recipe in full in hopes of leftovers. But...Do you live in Zürich and love a good meal with what we believe is good company? If so then email me and we'd love to have you for coffee/ tea or dinner. You bring the wine and I'll be sure to stuff you with delicious food. But really...I'm serious...email me, we'd love to meet you!
DO YOU TAKE ALL THE PHOTOS ON YOUR BLOG?
I do! I've always been a photo enthusiast, but I've never really had the time to pursue life behind the lens. This forced vacation is my chance to capture the moments that make me stop and remember that I am living in Zurich and this is my life!
WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?
Right now (currently September 2012) I am shooting with a film camera and have been for a year now. I love the quality and light of film photos. I primarily use a Pentax K1000 that I bought on ebay and a 50mm 1.7 lens. I also have a point and shoot Contax T2 which I love carrying around with me. I use Kodak Portra 400 film.
In terms of digital (before October 2011) I received a Canon 7D as a wedding gift from my mom, an avid photographer, and I'm loving it! I own a lovely Nikon DSLR, but it is currently kapput, so I have been using a Cannon S90. I could gush all day about this camera, but David Pogue at the NYTimes might love this camera more than me, so I suggest you read his love letter to the S90.
