My (much younger) little brother is actually going through orientation today, and it's brought on a whole flood of nostalgia. Crumble looks delicious, I can't wait to get started on my fall baking!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5413615485793018819.post-59811285363335069712012-09-07T04:00:52.048+02:002012-09-07T04:00:52.048+02:00I saw this and needed to make a crumble immediatel...I saw this and needed to make a crumble immediately! All I had were apples, but the topping is fabulous.

Thanks for the pictures of the lovely Mirabellen. I grew up eating them and always miss them around this time of year. But it's definitely not a wave to ride in a bathing suit, no, this is more of a scarf and slippers, tea and oatmeal type of wave, and I'm loving it. Oy! the pastel! I'll try and dig up some chartreuse and bubblegum pink memories for you and Amy. talleyhttp://www.housetohaus.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5413615485793018819.post-43242361709715265172012-09-05T20:59:27.772+02:002012-09-05T20:59:27.772+02:00thanks Katherine - you're so nice to say so! That fall is in your DNA, that "things happen" in the fall -- I feel the same way. And these are the Reine Claudes you've mentioned. They're beautiful. I'm with Amy: More Deerfield, please! Bring on the pastel! I'll try and dig up some memories to share here. It feels like a long time ago -all those rules, all that work, all that pastel!

Apples will of course be delicious and I fully appreciate you waiting. No need to rush it with plums if plums just don't do it for you anymore. Don't you have a cherry tree too? Amazing! I was one of those West coast girls that grew up watching Dead Poets Society and reading Fitzgerald books, wishing I could go to some prep school in New England. Lucky you. I hope you feature Deerfield again sometime here. Oh, and I have to say, I love that you and Zach met in high school. That made me irrationally happy, I think.

And I love this crisp. I'm like you, and think it's a bit too early for apple crisp. I'm not quite ready for it. But I did like what you wrote about fall... I hope things always keep on happening. Anyway, I love the way you described this crisp, but I might have to save it to top apples. As a result of growing up with plum trees in the backyard where the plums were always way too ripe and we had always had way too many of them, I've developed an aversion to them. Maybe I can try and finally get a taste of East Coast boarding school, then, when I make the real Deerfield-version crisp with apples!Amyhttp://themoveablefeasts.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5413615485793018819.post-87025148060958427252012-09-05T00:00:10.922+02:002012-09-05T00:00:10.922+02:00Ah, Talley, I can't resist a story that's ...Ah, Talley, I can't resist a story that's full of happy coincidences and retrospective reflections on what was yet to come!
